Second edition marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Museo della Specola.
In the spirit of the Enlightenment and the expansion of scientific research in 18th-century Europe, Pietro Leopoldo, Grand Duke of Tuscany, commissioned a remarkable series of anatomical wax models for his Imperial and Royal Museum of Physics and Natural History, which are still preserved today in their original location. They are an example of the traditional Florentine art of wax sculpture.
This volume revisits these subjects—virtually unknown to modern audiences—presenting their history, biographies of the wax sculptors, and analytical charts.
